First Try Type of Guy

/Gregg

Joe Jr. was the son of old Joe Colt

Jr. was the kinda fella whose wrench never fit the bolt

But instead of walking over to the shed and finding the tool that fit

He'd just put it on the worst he could and pull it till it stripped

No matter how much he would cuss and swear that never did seem to help

and he was convinced that no one understood just exactly how he felt

His daddy always told him, "Son you've got to take your time.

Don't waste your whole life chasing dollars when you can enjoy a dime.

Embrace all your mistakes and follow your dreams up to the sky.

But you can't always expect to be a first try type of guy."

It wasn't long before Joe Jr. met a girl to call his gal

and every Tuesday night he'd accompany her to a Rinky Dink honky tonk in their town

She'd wrap her arms around him and shove her hands deep in his pockets

She'd empty them out before he knew, and he couldn't find the nerve to tell her to stop it

But late at night when his money was gone she would leave him there all alone

And he'd think back to the time his old man told him everything that he had to know

His daddy always told him, "Son you've got to take your time.

Don't waste your whole life chasing dollars when you can enjoy a dime.

Embrace all your mistakes and follow your dreams up to the sky.

But you can't always expect to be a first try type of guy."

Well I saw Mr. Colt Sr. just the other day, he was outside shoveling snow

He said "If you see that whiskey soaked dead broke boy of mine tell him that I said he has to go.

I've given him every chance in the world and he's taken it all for granted

and if he comes back he better straighten up his act or he’ll be out in the cold and stranded."

And his daddy always told him, "Son you've got to take your time.

Don't waste your whole life chasing dollars when you can enjoy a dime.

Embrace all your mistakes and follow your dreams up to the sky.

But you can't always expect to be a first try type of guy."
